C. Kimo Alameda, PhD
  • Title:  Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Alameda is a graduate of St. Joseph High School and earned his doctorate in psychological, educational, and cultural studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has over 15 years of executive experience in state and county government and has consulted with FQHCs and hospitals statewide to improve their cultural competency and patient experience. With his ties to the community, Dr. Alameda brings strong strategic partnerships with other medical and social service providers to enhance Bay's coordinated system of health in East Hawaii. Dr. Alameda is also a licensed psychologist, teaches at Hawaii Community College, coaches’ basketball at Hilo High School, and has his own youth athletic program. He and his wife Star are the proud parents of seven children.

Marcie Saquing


Marcie Saquing
  • Title:  Chief Operating Officer

Born on Maui, raised in Hilo, Ms. Saquing is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapālama, earned her BA from the College of Idaho and MA from Central Michigan University. With nearly 25 years in the education and non-profit sector, her passion lies in building capacity through partnerships and education in the community. Prior to joining Bay Clinic, she was the Executive Director of Hawaii Island Adult Care. Her greatest joys are daughters Lilinoe and Rachel, and her mo’opuna Leiali’i.

Dr. David Gorchoff


Dr. David Gorchoff
  • Title:  Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Gorchoff is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician as well as a certified HIV specialist. In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Gorchoff also holds a masters’ degree in public health. Dr. Gorchoff’s experience includes work in community clinic settings his whole career, which he loves. He states, “and, truth be told, I have never wanted my work to be anything but being a part of serving those most in need. My work has been a source of great satisfaction to me, in large part because of all the awesome, like-minded people like you who choose to do this mission- driven work because our hearts call us here.”

Brian Michael Higa, DMD


Brian Michael Higa, DMD
  • Title:  Chief Dental Officer

Originally from Hilo, Dr. Higa has over fifteen years of experience providing comprehensive dental care services in rural and underserved regions. He was a key member of our BCI team that planned and implemented the establishment of our Hilo Family Dental Center in 2011 and our new Ka'u Family Dental Center that opened for operations in November 2013.

Kama Kala, Registered Nurse, has been with Bay Clinic for 10 years. Starting as a floor nurse in Keaau, she quickly progressed to Keaau Charge Nurse, Float Charge Nurse, and to Nursing Supervisor. Ms. Kala served as Interim Clinical Director since 2019, and accepted the permanent position as Clinical Director in June 2020.

Derek Okawa

  • Title:  Director of Health Information Technology

A native of Hilo, Mr. Okawa joined Bay Clinic in 2005 as an Information Technology Intern through the Hawai’i Community College placement program. Upon completion of his internship, Mr. Okawa accepted a permanent position with the organization and has worked in various positions within the Health Information Technology (HIT) Department. Mr. Okawa was a key team member in Bay Clinic’s transition to a fully electronic medical practice. This transition included the full upgrade of the organizations HIT, such as electronic health records, electronic prescribing, e-labs, as well as the interactive Patient Portal.

Sharon Nelson


Sharon Nelson
  • Title:  Human Resources Manager

Sharon moved to the island in 1993. She attended University of Hawaii at Hilo and received her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry with a Minor in Tropical Agriculture. She came to work for Bay Clinic in 2007 under the then Medical Director as a Provider Relations Coordinator. In 2009, she was accepted into the Human Resources department as an HR Coordinator and Executive Assistant to the CEO. In 2012, Sharon was promoted to our Human Resources Manager and has held that position ever since. Sharon is a proud mother of three. In her spare time, she gardens, and enjoys helping her kids with their remote math, chemistry and biology courses.
